In INSPIRE, processes automatically assign papers to author profiles based on ID and name-matching algorithms. Unfortunately, no system of NAME MATCHING is perfect – sometimes papers do not end up in the correct author profiles.
INSPIRE provides a tool that allows you to amend the list of papers in your author profile (under tab ‘Research works’). Use this tool: to confirm your authorship of a paper; to remove a paper that was mistakenly attributed to you; to claim authorship of a paper that should have been attributed to you but was mistakenly attributed to a similarly named person; to claim authorship of a paper from a literature search.
The following steps show you how to:
-
- Confirm authorship of papers listed in your INSPIRE author profile
- Remove papers listed in your INSPIRE author profile, hence confirming that you are NOT the author/co-author
- Claim authorship of papers listed under someone else’s INSPIRE author profile to your author profile
- Claim authorship of papers from a literature search or detailed literature record.
Steps:
1) Log into INSPIRE by clicking on ‘Login’, and then ‘Login with ORCID’:
2) Log in by using your ORCID credentials, or
3) any linked account:
4) Click on ‘Account’, and select ‘My profile’:
5) Confirm authorship of papers listed in your INSPIRE author profile: see the papers in your ‘Author profile (under tab ‘Research works’), where a blue icon next to the title of a paper means that its authorship is waiting to be confirmed. To claim authorship of a paper that is listed in your author profile, click ‘claim’ and select ‘This is my paper’:
Note: following your request you will not see the result immediately.
If you have many papers to claim, it is possible to select all of them before doing a bulk claim of authorship:
6) Remove papers listed in your INSPIRE author profile, hence confirming that you are NOT the author: following automatic assignment of authorship, or an update to a paper, you might need to remove a paper that is mistakenly listed in your author profile. To remove a paper from your author profile, click ‘claim’ and select ‘This is not my paper’:
Note: following your request you will not see the result immediately.
7) Claim authorship of papers listed under someone else’s INSPIRE author profile to your author profile: to claim authorship of a paper, go to that author’s profile, and find the paper. Then click ‘claim’ and select ‘Move to my profile’. Depending on name-matching and/or policy, the paper will then be listed in your author profile or else your request will be sent to the curator for review.
8) Claim authorship of papers from a literature search. If you are logged in to INSPIRE with your ORCID, you will see a ‘claim’ button at the bottom of every brief entry in a literature search. Click the button and select ‘Move to my profile’ to claim the paper to your author profile. You can also claim papers from the detailed page of any literature record.
Note that conference proceedings should only be claimed by the editors of the proceedings. If you are an author of a paper within in a conference proceedings, please search for the individual conference paper to claim. You can see all conference papers associated with a particular conference either by clicking the link to the conference name in the proceedings record, or by searching for the conference in the Conferences database.
Conference record
By default the Conferences database displays results for upcoming conferences. To see results from past conferences, switch off the toggle “Upcoming conferences” in the search filters on the left.
If you cannot find your conference paper in INSPIRE and believe it falls within our content policy, you can submit it to be added here.
See KB ‘Export your INSPIRE works to ORCID‘ if you wish to always push claimed works in your author profile to your ORCID record.
